Warden Notice 15/2008

This Warden Notice is to alert American citizens that at approximately 20:00 hours a major bomb explosion took place at the Marriott Hotel in Downtown Islamabad. Pakistan's Interior Minister has announced that security has been raised to "high alert" across the country. U.S. Embassy personnel have been advised to remain at home until further notice. Please contact the U.S. Embassy at the telephone number below if you have information relating to an American who is missing or requires medical assistance. Americans in Islamabad, regardless of whether or not they were in the vicinity of the Marriott Hotel at the time of the attack, are also encouraged to contact family in the United States to let them know of your welfare and whereabouts.

The Embassy reiterates its advice to all Americans to take appropriate individual precautions to ensure their safety and security at all times.  These measures include maintaining good situational awareness, avoiding crowds and demonstrations and keeping a low profile. Americans should avoid setting patterns by varying times and routes for all required travel.  Americans should ensure that their travel documents and visas are valid at all times.

American citizens are encouraged to register with the nearest Embassy or Consulate.
